Solid foods? Never

On thanksgiving Mack was introduced to his first food.  It was rice cereal and he hated it.  I tried for days to get him to eat it.  I mixed it with breast milk and he still wanted nothing to do with it.  Then I learned that I was serving it to him all wrong.  I was making it cold for him and not warming it up.  Once realized it needed to be warmed up I thought I the problem was solved and he would start eating it.  That was not the case.  His mouth went to lock down and he refused to open up when the spoon came near.  That lead me to try bananas and he refused to eat, then applesauce and he still refused.  I was worried so at his 6 1/2 month doctor’s appointment I expressed my concerns.  Dr. Jackson said that food is becoming a negative experience and I need to make it not be and not force it.  She said to try dissolvable crackers and sit him up to eat with us at the table.   This advice was easy for her to say, but not easy to do.  The minute the cracker broke off in his mouth he started to gag and cough like he was chocking.  I panic and shoved my finger in his mouth and retrieved the cracker.  He hated the experience and so did I.  It was a dramatic moment for both of us.  Lets hope that he will one day like food and not just milk from me.  It will happen, right?  I imagine it to be a smooth transition but at this point it’s nothing but smooth.

Oh man, I am sorry you are having a hard time with this. Have you tried those cookies that they can suck on? You have to watch really close so they don't get soggy and a piece breaks off but Caden LOVED those! Good Luck!

Cam,

None of my boys liked baby food. I stopped trying and just waited till they would grab at the food we were eating. My mom found a baby food grinder at The good Earth and we started putting our food into the grinder and then feed them that. Don't stress. Just keep offering it to him and when he likes something you'll know it.
